Hires, mentors, and manages performance of department staff.Oversees the financials and manages expenditures within the approved budget. In collaboration with CS leadership, develops the annual budget in alignment with the department strategic plan.Also responsible for ensuring that fiscal activities are compliant with school and university financial policies and guidelines and that proper internal controls are in place. In the last completed fiscal year, research expenditures exceeded $19M for more than 36 research labs/groups. Total expenditures for FY22 were $30.5M.įaculty are active in fundamental computer science and engineering research and are engaged in interdisciplinary initiatives with scientists, humanists, engineers in other disciplines and medical personnel. The department includes more than 60 faculty members, 19 professional staff, 300+ graduate students, and 2100+ undergraduate majors and minors. The UVA Department of Computer Science is a nationally recognized leader in computer science research and education. They supervise a team of employees in carrying out these responsibilities and are the primary liaison between the department and the broader university administration, including the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS). The Director of Operations works collaboratively with the department chair and faculty to address operational concerns, resolve issues, and advocate for departmental priorities and initiatives. The Director of Operations is responsible, either personally, collaboratively, or through delegation of responsibilities, for directing and managing the daily operations of the department, which include the administrative, financial, human resources, and educational operations in support of the department’s educational and research missions.
